`Changes to Training Packages and how it will effect you`

Training Packages change from time to time. Most recently, the SIS Training Package was updated.


SWIM Coaches & Teachers Australia (SWIM) wants to ensure all our Students are given adequate opportunity to complete the course of study they are enrolled in.  As a Registered Training Organisation SWIM is committed to ensuring that this occurs.
For the year 2022-23, students enrolled with SWIM must complete all qualifications by no later than 30 November 2023
The following courses offered by SWIM are being affected:

SIS31015 – Cert III in Aquatics & Community Recreation – Swim Australia™ Aquatic Supervisor
SISSS00129 – Pool Lifeguard
SISSS00112 – Swim Australia™ Teacher
Swim Australia™ Teacher of Babies & Toddlers (SAT B&T)
Swim Australia™ Teacher of Learners with Disability
Swim Australia™ Cultural Awareness In Aquatics
Swim Australia™ Aquatic Survival Skills Course

Q: What happens if I cannot finish my qualification in 2023?
A: Enrolled students who cannot complete qualifications by the specified date (including all practical training hours through accreditation being issued) will automatically transition into the new qualifications.
Q: Do I have to complete additional work if I cannot finish my qualification in 2023?
A: YES. Students who may have completed the theory modules will be issued with the most up-to-date content that will require to be completed only. This will be required as the new training package is not equivalent to the existing one. We strongly recommend all students complete the qualifications and have accreditation issued by 30 November 2023.
Q: Will I be subjected to a fee?
A: Fees will be applicable to students who express interest in being transferred into the new Training Package.
Q: Can I apply for an extension if I can’t complete the course in 2023?
A: Extensions are assessed on a case-by-case scenario. Extensions to the existing training package can only be applied in 2023.

`How do I enrol in a course?`


Go to our Course Workshop Calendar on our website here
Find a course in your area and click on it in the calendar
You will now find all the details regarding the course including the Presenters name and contact details, Start and ending time and location details
Click on the Register now button and complete the registration details including your credit card details
Once payment has been approved you will receive an email (check your Junk Mail) with login details to your new Profile in SWIMDECK (our Learning Management System)
Once logged in you will see your Dashboard and your To-Do List
You must complete all items in your To Do List, specifically the Student Enrolment Form, Student Handbook and all Course Modules before attending your face-to-face workshop
After the workshop the remaining items must be completed before you are able to be assessed and deemed Component/not Competent.

`What do I need to do to complete a course?`


Register for a face-to-face workshop


Before the Workshop

Complete your online theory modules, Student Enrolment Form and Student Handbook all found on your DITA Profile Dashboard in your To-Do-list

Attend the Workshop
After the Workshop

Complete your on-the-job training
Complete all other items on your Dita Profile To-do list including your Trainer Evaluation, Course Evaluation, Accumulative Training Record
Submit your documents in your Dita Profile
Once submitted they will automatically be sent to our Assessors
Once deemed competent you will receive your Certificate, Statement of Attainment, SWIM Graduate membership and Complimentary Teacher/Coach insurance (dependent on the course completed) for the 3-year period of your accreditation.
You must keep both your CPR and Working with Children Check up to date for the period of your accreditation for it and your insurance to remain valid.

`Are Swim Australia courses recognised nationally?`

Yes, we are a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) registered by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) to deliver vocational education training (VET) services. We provide quality training and qualifications that are nationally recognised.

`What is the minimum age to enrol in a Swim Australia course?`

You may enrol in a Swim Australia™ Teacher course at 15 years of age.

`Do you run any courses near me?`

We run courses all over Australia and some Internationally, check our Course Workshop Calendar to see the current availability.

`What do I do if I can't find a course near me on the course calendar?`

If you can’t find a course workshop in your area or the date doesn’t meet your needs, you can complete an Expression of Interest by clicking here and we will inform presenters in your area and they will make contact with you directly if they are organising a course in the near future.


Please continue to check the Course Workshop Calendar on a weekly basis as it does get updated regularly.

`How long do your courses take to complete?`

The course workshop for our Teacher/Coach courses are usually a day event or they could be scheduled over two half days, depending on the pool and staff availability.


You have 12 months to complete all components of your course but may be accredited sooner should you complete and submit all your course requirements.

`How much do your courses cost?`

Swim Australia™ Teacher courses vary from $285 to $360 depending on varying factors such as pool and room hire and presenter travel expenses.

`I want to complete one of your extension courses (eg. SAT LWD), but have completed my swim teacher training elsewhere, will you recognise it as the prerequisite?`

Yes, you will need to upload a copy of the pre-requisite qualification.
