Swim Australia offer a suite of extension courses which enable the further development of teachers and creates the potential for members of our community with physical, social or cultural barriers to participate in lessons and programs promoting water safety and swimming skills.

The Swim Australia™ Teacher of the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (SAT CALD) has the competency of a Swim Australia™ Teacher with additional specific knowledge and abilities related to teaching swimming and water safety to Learners from a range of cultures, religions and language groups.

Enrollment Requirements

  • A current Swim Australia™ Teacher qualification, or
  • A current Swim Australia™ Teacher of Competitive Swimming qualification

Course structure

This course of study is based entirely upon a self-paced review and completion of the course contents either via textbook or the online course portal.

Upon completion of the Units of Study and Practical Assessment you will be accredited and your qualification will be registered against your Swim Central teacher profile.  An updated Teacher Certificate will be issued electronically which notes your completed SAT CALD qualification.

Students have up to 12 months to complete this course but may be accredited sooner should they have completed and submitted all course requirements.

Accreditation Requirements

Completion of:

  • Course Workbook
  • Practical Assessment
  • Accredited and Valid CPR qualification (HLTAID001, 002, 003, 004, 007, 009, 011, 012)
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI)
  • Current SAT or SAT CS Qualification
  • Completion of the Safe Sport Framework

You may enroll in a Swim Australia™ Teacher course at 16 years of age but are not eligible to receive the accreditation until you are 17 years of age. 

Certification | Accreditation

An added benefit of this self-paced study course is that is constitutes ASCTA Professional Development and thus extends the expiration date of any current and existing Swim Australia™ Teacher accreditations you have for a further 3 years from the date of this course’s completion.

Students who have successfully completed this course will receive an updated electronic Swim Australia Teacher certificate which notes your completed SAT CALD qualification.
