Description

George Santayana is quoted as saying “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

Some may consider Harry Gallagher’s new book Pushing Positive Buttons is a reflective historical book a veritable who’s who of Australian swimming from the 1950’s to the 2000’s.

As a sports administrator, swimming coach and swimming and water safety teacher for over 40 years I am always seeking new ideas, not just for myself but also to share with my cohorts. I was surprised at the large number of coaching ideas, mental approaches and slants on events that Harry was able to translate to paper.

Pushing Positive Buttons is not just a history book. It is also a book that should be in every coach’s “toolbox” if they aspire to achieve greatness for their swimmers.

Machiavelli once wrote that “Whoever wishes to foresee the future must consult the past; for human events ever resemble those of preceding times.”

Pushing Positive Buttons is a good read for anyone. Through providing stories about how Harry overcame seemingly insurmountable roadblocks, this book provides inspiration in overcoming adversary in everyday life as well as providing some mentoring to all sporting coaches.

I commend to you that Pushing Positive Buttons is one of the reads of the year!
